"War
Zone" is about sex, power and what happens when men---either
knowingly or unknowingly---threaten a woman´s right to walk
undisturbed on the streets. What exactly do catcalls, leers or
a whole litany of other behaviors mean to a woman? And why do
men engage in these behaviors?
Shot
all over the US, Hadleigh-West turns her camera on men in the
same way that they turn their aggression on her. "War Zone"
is 76 minutes of explosive footage as the filmmaker places herself
in very real danger by daring to ask the men on the streets
why they are treating a complete stranger in a sexual way.
In the process, she has been hit, yelled at, apologized to and
engaged in mesmerizing conversations with the men that have
harassed her. Through these conversations, Hadleigh-West reveals
the anger, fear and frustration as well as the affection, admiration
and humor that characterizes relationships between men and women.
About The Filmmaker
Maggie Hadleigh-West is a New York-based filmmaker and activist.

Don't
Need You is a documentary film that tells the story of the origins
of the Riot Grrl in the American independent music scene of
the early 1990's, and how this feminist movement evolved into
a revolutionary underground network of education and self-awareness
through music, writing, activism, and women-friendly community.
The
film gives audiences a chance to meet key figures in the history
of Riot Grrl and see for themselves how these women have changed
the history of music and feminism forever.
The
film features one-on-one interviews interpsersed with rare archival
materials, including original Riot Grrl fanzines, flyers and
photographs, as well as seldom seen footage from pioneering
Riot Grrl bands like Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, and Heavens To
Betsy.

MUSIC - The Color Guard
|
|
With
the deceptively basic ingredients of drums, bass, guitar, and
vocals, The Color Guard drags four distinct musical personalities
thrashing and kicking into a set of throaty, unpredictable songs
that nudge life's ugliest moments into vibrating harmonies.
Lalena, who sings and plays guitar, hails from Houston;
she left her art-punk band Catbox there to go to art school
in New York, where she co-founded The Hissyfits.
Native New Yorker Chris, whose usual reserved nature
takes a U-turn when she sits behind the drum kit, last rocked
the land as guitarist of Kittywinder.
Jeanne, who maintains her no-nonsense attitude even in
the midst of her most baroque bass melodies, played in Sleeves,
and hails from Ann Arbor.
And guitarist Valerie brings a wistful and sensual flair
from New Orleans where she played with punk three-piece A.G.B.
